How To Lower Electric Bill

  • Refrain from using baseboard electric heaters.  These heaters suck power and are not how to lower electric bill fees.  Set the thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter months.  A recommended energy-efficient daytime temperature is 68°F while a good nighttime temperature is 55°F.
  • Close doors to rooms that are not in use, as it takes longer to heat and cool a home when all room doors are open.
  • Weatherproof your windows and doors as well as insulate you

    r walls and ceilings.  This will help to ensure air does not leak in or out of your residence, allowing the desired warm or cool temperature to be reached faster and maintained longer.

  • Cover your windows

    with thick curtains or blinds to block out sunlight during the daytime in the summer and to provide insulation in the evening during the winter.

  • Computers and laser printers can use a lot of power.  Turn these items off and unplug them whenever they are not in use.
  • Only run the dishwasher when full and don’t use the heat drying feature, as this uses a lot of energy.
  •  Wash clothes in cold water and only use the washing machine when you have a full load.
  • Whenever possible, hang clothes, towels, etc. to dry instead of using the clothes dryer.
  • Don’t open the oven door to check food if you can see through the window
  • Use a slow cooker or a toaster oven instead of the regular oven when making smaller meals.
  • Thaw frozen foods in the fridge to save on cooking time.
  • Replace old appliances with energy efficient models.

Knowing how to lower electric bill isn’t difficult.  Mostly it is simply a matter of common sense and discovering the many different ways you can conserve energy in your home.
