What Is Energy Efficiency

What is energy efficiency? In essence, it is a term used to describe products that have been specially designed with the objective to conserve power when providing services, which is achieved through the reduction of energy waste by using energy as efficiently as possible.  Another definition that can be used to describe energy efficiency is using reduced energy to make the same service available.  In other words, it’s cutting back on the energy without impeding the service that is being provided. Perhaps the best way to explain what is energy efficiency, and to understand it, is through examples of how it can be applied to a home.  For instance, consider the following:

  • Insulation -when a home is insulated the structure can attain a comfortable temperature at a quicker rate and sustain this temperature for a longer time, which means the air conditioning unit and furnace are required to run less compared to a home that is not adequately insulated and would require more energy use to reach and maintain the desired temperature.
  • Light bulbs – compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are better for providing general lighting than the classic incandescent bulbs when it comes to saving power and energy efficiency.  The reason is traditional blubs waste a lot of energy in heat productio

n while compact fluorescent bulbs primarily use energy for making light alone.  In fact, on average, it is estimated that a CFL bulb uses 2/3 less energy and can last 6 – 10 times longer compared to incandescent bulbs.

  • Windows – replacing old window panes that leak air in or out of the house with ones designed to prevent these drafts from occurring, helps save energy as it stops heat and cool air from escaping the home or entering from outside.  Therefore, the heating and cooling unit needs to run less, reducing energy costs.  In addition, another way to ensure efficient use of energy is to install skylights, which help provide or improve the natural light within a space, increasing illumination and further eliminating the need for artificial lighting during daytime hours.
  • Appliances – what is energy efficiency in terms of appliances?  This includes items, such as refrigerators, stoves, dish washers, clothes washers and dryers, etc. that use less energy but still provide the same service you would receive from a standard cialis price model.  As a result of using these appliances, you reduce the cost of your electricity and utility bill and even decrease the amount of green house gases being released into the atmosphere.

Now that you have a better understanding of what is energy efficiency, if you want to obtain the most benefits from it, you need to learn how to make your home more energy efficient by making the necessary upgrades and changes to the various products, appliances and equipment in your home.
